Autism Support & Advocacy Center

OUR MISSION

To provide individuals on the autism spectrum with an opportunity to achieve independence by supporting all areas of the life; to provide layered support for the families of individuals with autism; and to strengthen the voice of the autism community through advocacy and awareness.

Our global approach to families, incorporating aspects from the home, school, and community, will support each individual's objectives in a dignified and respectful manner.

WHAT WE DO

The Autism Support and Advocacy Center is a non-profit organization that is here to support the growing number of families who are affected by autism in the triangle area. The spectrum of autism is wide; as are the needs of the families. Our services encompass three major areas of need: School Support, Home Support, and Community Support.

School Support

You are your child's strongest advocate and we want to make sure that you feel prepared for meetings with your child's school, that your voice is heard, and that you feel comfortable and confident with your child's goals and supports. We can help you navigate through the process, procedures, and the paperwork. In addition, we can review your child's IEP and create individualized work tasks for you to work on at home. For more detail on this area of support, please click "School Support".

Home Support

The most effective home programs feature five areas of focus. We can help you establish, maintain, or adjust home programs that feature: consistency, structure, motivation/reinforcement, promotion of independence, and language-rich environments in what ever communication mode is appropriate. Please click "Home Support" for more information.

Community Support

Your child deserves to have interactive and positive experiences  within their community. We believe in creating those opportunities through inclusion and creative programming. We will work with you to form individualized supports so your child can gain the benefits from participating in various aspects of the community; like visits to the grocery store, participating in social groups, or successful placement in a job.  In addition, we will provide you with unique events and programs to participate in, as well as connect you with other existing programs and resources. Please click on "Community Support" for more information.

We can also link you with other providers that can assist you in the area of family wellness, such as therapists, marriage counselors, and evaluation services.
